How what you the in Queenstown, New Zealand?

Tourism

A resort town, Queenstown is a centre for adventure tourism. Skiing, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping and fly fishing are all strong promotional themes.

Queenstown is a major centre for snow sports in New Zealand, with people from all over the country and many parts of the world travelling to ski at the four main mountain skifields (Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone). Cross country skiing is also available at the Waiorau Snow Farm, located near the village of Cardrona.

A coal fired steamship that is nearly 100 years old, called the TSS Earnslaw, provides tourist trips on the lake.

In recent years, Queenstown's hostels have become a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Queenstown provides adventure tourism during the day and a vibrant nightlife scene during the evenings. Queenstown is also gaining popularity as a honeymoon destination.

Locally, Queenstown has a reputation as one of New Zealand's wine and cuisine centres. Neighbouring, historic Arrowtown also features excellent restaurants and bars, and Queenstown lies close to the centre of a small wine producing region, reputed to be the world's southernmost. Pinot noir produced in this area fetches premium prices.

Queenstown also now hosts an annual International Jazz Festival [1]. Recent international performers include Anika Moa and Di Bird.

Queenstown also has a reputation for being the 'Adventure Capital of the World'.[3]

Queenstown Airport is located 10km from town[4] and has scheduled flights to Auckland, Christchurch and Sydney year-round and Wellington, Melbourne and Brisbane seasonally.

Highlights

Transport

Queenstown is accessible by road and air but not by rail.

As a resort centre, there are many bus services that operate into Queenstown, with most being for package tours, but daily services for the local or itinerant are available to and from Invercargill, Dunedin and Christchurch, which are the main cities closest to Queenstown.

Queenstown has an international airport with flights from Australia by Air New Zealand and Qantas and in particular, from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (the frequency is much increased over the ski season). Domestic flights operate from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Due to sustained growth, expansion of the airport terminal was undertaken in 2005 through 2010.

Queenstown Airport is New Zealand's busiest helicopter base, and is also heavily used for tourist 'flightseeing', especially to Milford Sound and Mount Cook, using both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.

The primary road access to the Queenstown area is via State Highway 6 (SH6), which travels from Cromwell through the Kawarau Gorge to Frankton, where a 9 km spur (SH6A) leads to the CBD and connects with the Glenorchy Road. SH6 continues south, crossing the Kawarau river before heading down the eastern side of Lake Wakatipu to Kingston before crossing the provincial boundary and emerging on the plains of Southland. A difficult road over the Crown Range leads to Cardrona skifield and Wanaka, and is New Zealand's highest paved public road.

Queenstown is the departure point for a large number of day trips to the similarly famous Milford Sound, which entails a return trip of approximately 12 hours. There are scenic flights available to Milford Sound. A return flight, including a two-hour Mitre Peak Cruise, is approximately four hours.

See also:Transport to Milford Sound

The Remarkables

For the band with the same name, see The Remarkables (band).

The Remarkables are a mountain range and skifield in Otago, South Island of New Zealand. Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, the range lives up to its name by rising sharply to create an impressive backdrop for the waters. The range is clearly visible from the nearby town of Queenstown.

High point in the range is Double Cone (2340 metres) with Ben Nevis (2330 metres, named after the Scottish mountain of the same name) a little further south in the Hector mountains.[citation needed]

The mountains were allegedly named The Remarkables because they are one of only two mountain ranges in the world which run directly north to south.[citation needed] An alternate explanation for the name given by locals is that early Queenstown settlers, upon seeing the mountain range during sunset one evening, named them the Remarkables to describe the sight.

My family members vacation to Queenstown, New Zealand nice much have very cold and mountain snow. Happy enjoyable visit to Queenstown, New Zealand goodbye and thanks everybwhere.

Thanks me sister,
Nabila (Kak Bila).

How what you the Penguin Place?

Penguin Place is a private conservation reserve dedicated in helping this endangered species survive. The project is entirely funded by the guided tours. This funding provides habitat restoration, predator control, a research programme and on-site rehabilitation care, for the sick, starving and wounded.

The Penguins

Yellow Eyed Penguin
Hoiho (noise shouter).
Megadyptes Antipodes (the great southern diver)

Yellow Eyed Penguins are the worlds most endangered penguin, and live only in south east areas of New Zealand waters, on our mainland estimated numbers are as low as 700 individuals. The species is the third tallest and weigh between 5-6 kg and are capable of living to 20-25 years old, unfortunately today most of them will never reach breeding age.

Since the arrival of man, extinction has become a real threat, this land was once forested and free of land predators. The lack of suitable breeding areas, mammal predation and human disturbance are three key reasons for the decline. Here at Penguin Place all three issues are combated through our project, each year a few thousand native trees are planted back in the reserve, plus by providing nest boxes- the same shade, privacy and security is gained in an immediate solution.

On-going predator control ensures a safer environment and by conducting guided tours the wildlife is left undisturbed which allows them to behave naturally.

Our own scientist carries out a research programme, from this we have in-depth records of the individuals lives, breeding success, ages etc. By continually monitoring the breeding between three separate colonies we keep tabs to ensure our tours do not impact in the birds success.

While monitoring we keep an eye out for any penguins in trouble, our Penguin hospital gives a second chance at life for any who are wounded, malnourished or chicks who have been abandoned. We have a very high success in rehabilitation and our efforts are not only aiding our private colonies, but the entire coast. Penguins found elsewhere in need are brought here for us to care for.

The Tour
minute guided tours.

The tour begins with a short talk outlining the issues Yellow Eyed penguins are facing, the lifecycle and how the project is carried out. A short bus trip over the farm takes the small groups to the reserve. While in the reserve your guide will lead you on foot through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides. Allowing access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin, which provides the opportunity to witness and photograph undisturbed activity at close range.

Participants need to be comfortable on their feet as it is a walking tour, over the hour a maximum of 900 metres will be covered.
Summer (October - March)

Tours begin 10:15am and run throughout the day until late afternoon

Winter (April - September)
3:15pm onwards times vary slightly due to daylight hours and fishing conditions

Please ring for specific tour times.

On any one of our tours you are guaranteed to see penguins and in doing so you are helping in the survival of this endangered species.

My family members nice much funny and thank you at Penguin Place,Dunedin. My family members visitor see much have animals penguins nice for quite.

Te Puia ?

Te Puia Introduction

Many people, many years and infinite stories are threaded into the history of Te Puia. Here stunning cultural performers excite and entertain in daily concerts during our Maori culture tours in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Step into an ancient valley at our Rotorua tourist attraction where geysers, mud pools and boiling waters still play after 40,000 years.

Discover the fascinating traits of New Zealand's national icon and listen to the songs of other birds in our beautiful valley.

As direct descendants, guides offer an insight into our lives, our activities and our land that no other tour in New Zealand can match.

Te Puia Rotorua Tourist Attractions

Enjoy a range of Maori culture tours and tourist attractions at Te Puia:

The New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute

For 38 years, students from tribes across New Zealand have converged on the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI) at Te Puia to learn traditions in danger of being lost forever.

Like the pictures of a book, arts and crafts are the pages of the Maori culture. It's how stories were told and passed down through generations; how traditions and genealogy were preserved. History was carved and woven.

Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley

For local Maori, the Whakarewarewa Valley is more than a natural wonder. According to tribal history, this was the place where the Goddesses of fire, Te Pupu and Te Hoata, emerged from the earth's core, inhaling and exhaling, creating the geysers, hot springs and mud pools.

It is within this valley where the fortress of Te Puia once stood, a stronghold never taken in battle. And it is here where the descendants of the ancients still live today, walking and guiding you through a land more than 40,000 years old.

Kiwi House

The Kiwi House opened as a display centre in 1976 and spent fledging years learning and understanding the needs of New Zealand's national icon.

In 1986 Te Puia began receiving injured kiwi, often found in traps or on roadsides. It became a haven and achieved the highest rate of recovery and survival for the injured birds.

Because they are extremely sensitive, this is the only place where photography is not permitted. Yet by coming to Te Puia, visitors contribute to the kiwi's survival.

Maori Cultural Performances

Stories of old soar to life again through song. Poi and stick games reveal how favourite past times were, in fact, training for agility and co-ordination. For everything there was a purpose, yet the learning was fun.

The spirit of Te Puia's daily Maori Cultural Performances, Kapa Haka, is to learn, to enjoy and also to be uplifted. Maori performers will sense the weary and focus their energy intently. It is irresistible!

As the birthplace of tourism in New Zealand, the Rotorua region and its peoples are known as the tribe of hospitality. It is their trademark and the performing arts are their speciality.

Guided Tours

At Te Puia, guiding is as natural as humour. It is in our bones. Many guides are the sons and daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren of the guides of old. They tell stories that have been told for generations and share their own.

The special connection guides have with the land and its' history ensures tours at Te Puia are unlike any other in New Zealand.

Korero Tuku Iho

For the first time, Te Puia will begin to share knowledge that has been carefully stored and, at times, fiercely guarded for generations.

It is the story of creation, an account so ancient it reaches back into the realms of nothingness—before all life, before all worlds, before humankind.

All tribes have their own histories. In Te Arawa, this is our belief of where we came from, before life as we know it, through the heavens, into the world of mankind to where we are today. It is the answer to Ko Wai Ahau? Who Am I?

For further information about our Rotorua tourist attraction, please contact us or visit our Maori culture tours in Rotorua Web site.

History of Te Puia

Preserving Maori traditions was never just a dream. It was a frightening and forced reality. For the Maori culture was once on the brink of being wiped off the face of the earth.

In 1918, an influenza epidemic decimated Maori communities across New Zealand. Masters of knowledge were lost. The skills of carvers and weavers were buried with them—and fear stirred. For the traditional arts and crafts were the chronicles of the culture, carving and weaving centuries of history, recording families, language and every facet of every tribe.

In 1926 a group of tauira (students) were chosen to revive the art of whakairo (carving) at a time when Maori arts and crafts were at risk of being lost.

In 1963 the Government recognised the real threat to the indigenous race of New Zealand and passed an Act to encourage, foster, train students, exhibit works and restore the Maori culture and Maori arts and crafts.

In 1967, the first carving intake representing tribes throughout the country entered the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua. It was built in the reserve of Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley where tourism had been thriving for more than a century.

Tourism would be the lifeline for the Institute, under the Act it was required to become self-supporting. To this day, it is visitor revenue that allows the continued training of young Maori and more.

For further information about our Rotorua tourist attraction, please contact us or visit our Maori culture tours in Rotorua Web site.

Come when learn history who just an we she my family members thanks.

My family members go to Tamaki Maori Village Rotorua,New Zealand

My family members go to Tamaki Maori Village Rotorua,New Zealand last night. My family pick up and let's ascend bus tour go to Tamaki Maori Village Rotorua last overnight just now. My family members and during coach for visitors. My family members enter at Tamaki Maori Village last night. My family members go ranks stand for see dance call "haka" Maori Worrior ,canalise walk see what story how Unitara's Maori Village,my families ranks ranking for see dance call "haka" or war dance show the tradition of Farewell Uitara's for show before and after dance show, canalise my family members eat for dinner to restaurant. My family members after eat to restaurant and dance ascend bus tour, during coach for visitors, return to motel. My family members return at motel.

How what you the at Tamaki Maori Village ?

From the moment I got picked up in the shuttle bus to go to the Tamaki Experience, I knew I was in for a real cultural treat.
Our driver informed us we had to imagine we weren’t actually riding on a bus, we were travelling in a Waka, the Maori word for canoe, and she set about telling us what was in store for the night ahead.
She asked one of the men to volunteer as chief for the night, which would involve gaining acceptance from the Maori tribe on entry into their village.

We would later realise just how important a role our chief would play throughout the evening.
On arrival at the village, we were greeted by the guardian of warfare Tumatauenga, with a Powhiri (welcome), to determine whether we were friend or foe. This was followed with a welcome from Tangaoroa, in honour of the voyage across Te Moana Nui A Kiwa – The Great Ocean of Kiwa – or the Pacific Ocean. He honoured the manuhiri (guests) with a gift of shells. Then we were amazed by a Wero (challenge) from Ruaumoko, the Guardian of volcanoes, geothermal activity and all earth’s power. He wowed the crowds with a spectacular blazing Taiaha display of Maori weaponry. The final welcome came from Tane Mahuta – Guardian of the forest. He welcomed the crowd into the huge native Tawa forest which is home to Tamaki Maori Village, and issued the final challenge and gift of a fern – the peace token or Teka. After the gift was accepted by our chief, we were given a Haka Powhiri (welcome Haka) to acknowledge our peaceful visit. The invitation was sealed with the call of the women – the Karanga – which apparently was essential for us to enter the village. It was a moving experience, and gave a real impression of what it would feel like to enter a Maori village.
Once inside, we were able to look around the home of the warrior sect of Ngati Tama. This is where the chosen few learn the art of becoming a warrior. We had the chance to meet the villagers themselves, learn about their lives and hear their tribal stories.
Their stories link the history to the land, to their ancestors, to the people of today.

I was told their costumes are the product of six months work and research, and the Tamaki show includes a strong link to earliest Maori arrival from Polynesia. Each of the outfits has been handcrafted and inspired by the textures, colours and resources available to earliest Maori, with a specific emphasis on feathers, shell and flax.
A piercing sound of a Putatara (shell horn) summoned us into the meeting house for a tribal hui. This involved an amazing display of song, haka, poi and weaponry displays to celebrate and remember their hardships, battles won and sacred traditions.
It was then time for a hangi feast, a delicious meal of meats and veges all cooked traditionally on hot rocks in an earthen oven for several hours to give an amazing flavour and real “melt in the mouth” yumminess. Our night drew to a close with Poroporoaki – the tradition of farewell, and final words from the storyteller to set us on our Waka ride home.

My family
members happy see dance show call this is "haka" much nice!!!!.
